Display after tuning: what does it show?
Many riders are surprised after a software upgrade: the bike is faster, but the display shows less. Whether that happens depends on the drive. Here is the overview based on the shop’s product information.
In short
| Drive | Assistance up to | Display after the upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Panasonic (from 2013) | approx. 45 km/h | shows your real speed |
| Shimano (with Bluetooth) | EP6 45 · EP8 32 km/h | shows your real speed |
| Bosch Smart System | 30 or 45 km/h | 30 km/h: real · 45 km/h: split (display 20 = real 40) |
| Bosch Gen 1–4 | approx. 50 km/h | halved (display 25 = real 50) |
| Yamaha (from 2016) | approx. 45 km/h | up to 50 % lower |
Why does the display show less?
On some systems the upgrade works via the wheel size stored in the system. The display then calculates with a different value and shows speed, distance and range lower than you actually ride. That is how the shop describes it for Yamaha (up to 50 % difference) and Bosch Gen 1–4 (halved display).
Which systems show the real speed?
Panasonic and Shimano: according to the shop, display and ride data stay correct after the upgrade, no converting and no GPS app needed. On the Bosch Smart System this applies to level 1 at 30 km/h. Level 2 at 45 km/h uses a split display.
Tip: check with a GPS app
For Yamaha and Bosch Gen 1–4 the shop recommends a GPS app on your smartphone to see your real speed.
